TROJAN WAR - SECOND GENERATION - THE CURSE ENDURES
Orestes loves Ermione - Ermione loves Pyrrhus - Pyrrhus loves Andromache.
And Andromacheis a mystery. Unrequited love dissolves the ability to
reason, paralyzes the will, and ultimately overrides the most powerful of
instincts - self-preservation. Central Works completes its 2006 season with a
revival of its 1994 production, a new adaptation of Jean Racine's neoclassic
potboiler, Andromache.
"...there's nothing jolting or anachronistic about writer and director Gary Graves' text, it's modern and clean...which gives this Andromache immediacy and vigor while still feeling larger than life."
--East Bay Express
"Graves' adaptation (he also directs the play) concentrates an impressionistic reworking of the dialogue into often witty contemporary prose. The cast is an exceptional ensemble, each cutting a fine figure."
--Berkeley Daily Planet
