IMMIGRATION: WHERE DO YOU STAND?

Central Works opened its 2006 season with a new play about citizenship and immigration.

Martin is a gay man; the political climate in the United States has led him to decide to try and leave the country. Rafael is a Mexican; the economic conditions in his country have led him to try and enter the US illegally in order to find work. Emily is a grade school teacher; the crisis in US immigration has led her to join the Minuteman Project, and go down south to guard the border. But strange things will happen to all three of them... Developed using Central Works Collaborative Method, Shadow Crossing is a new play written by local playwright Brian Thorstenson.

Written by Brian Thorstenson in collaboration with Gary Graves, Michael Navarra, Louis Parnell, Greg Scharpen & Jan Zvaifler. Directed by Gary Graves, featuring John Patrick Moore*, Michael Navarra* & Jan Zvaifler. Costumes by Tammy Berlin, lights by Robert Ted Anderson, sound by Gregory Scharpen & stage management by Kristin Fitch. *members Actors Equity Association, an AEA approved project

"Questions of immigration, law, justice, gay civil rights and border politics face off to provocative effect in Central Works' world premiere of Brian Thorstenson's drama. Smoothly and sometimes tensely staged...the almost head-spinning juxtapositions reflect our reality to continually thought-provoking effect. And the beautifully delineated performances...keep one's attention riveted to the stage."--San Francisco Chronicle

"Brian Thorstenson's dialogue is sharp, laden with pointed lines and exchanges, ...Central Works holds up its usual high production standards...the acting is of high quality." --Berkeley Daily Planet

"Central Works ha desarrollado una gran labor trayéndonos esta significativa produccíon" --San Francisco Tribune

"Central Works look at immigration raises poignant questions...the relationships are played truthfully, the tension is high, and ...the ending is satisfying ambiguous." --East Bay Express

"The acting is superb...It is an important conversation for all of us and an enjoyable evening of theatre." --East Bay Voice
