Women Pirates? It is true, throughout history many women have taken to sea. Some when disguised as men or boys, and some even sailed under the black flag. The two most famous cross-dressing female pirates were Anne Bonny and Mary Read. These two sailed with the flamboyant Captain Jack Rackam, plundering the Caribbean together until their capture off the coast of Jamaica. All three were tried for piracy in 1720, and sentenced to death. But there this strange tale takes an even stranger turn.
Based on the actual trial transcripts, and the fantastic tale of the "Women Pyrates" in Captain Charles Johnson's, General History of the Pyrates, Central Works has developed this wildly theatrical look at the romance and the reality behind the two most notorious women pirates in history.
