What would drive one of us to become one of them?

"We are fighting a new type of enemy and a new type of war" -- A. Gonzalez
"Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities" -- Voltaire

Taking the case of John Walker Lindh, the so-called "American Taliban," as its point of departure, Central Works opens its 2006 season at the Berkeley City Club with this timely new drama.

Written & directed by Gary Graves, ENEMY COMBATANT features Keith Cox, David Alan Moss and Jan Zvaifler. Costumes by Tammy Berlin, sound by Gregory Scharpen and stage management by Kristin Fitch.

"Playwright-director Gary Graves and his Central Works collaborators take the John Walker Lindh case and spin it into timely, disturbing questions about a military justice and interrogation system run amok...The sharply defined, intensely focused performances of the Central Works cast make it often a gripping experience as well."
-- Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Chronicle

"Director and writer Gary Graves has written and executed a most complex and vital piece...riveting."
-- Deborah Giattina, SF Bay Guardian

"Timely, tense...a well-researched, powerfully acted theatrical piece for audiences to take home and mull over."
-- Jack Tucker, Hills Papers

"An insightful and thought-provoking look at the political and social atmosphere...an intense tableau of intolerance and scandal in the context of a politically-charged world."
-- Angie Baecker, The Daily Californian

"Central Works is a company founded on collaboration in order to make a performance, and it shows: all three performers are at the top of their game, especially working together, with Graves’ direction...Gripping...a platform for the excellence of the cast and the director." -
-Ken Bullock, Berkeley Daily Planet
