"We're going in, " one U.S. Senator breathlessly confides to another about President Reagan's Granada invasion.

"On purpose?" deadpans his Iowa colleague.

Dietz has constructed a plot built on circles within circles of corruption. In Halcyon Days, the Iowan is the tentative voice of reason strangled by a spin-doctoring conspiracy. The sharp-fanged Raper concocts the Grenada charade from the White House Rose Garden, trumpeting " national security " while confiding that it is ominous poll numbers about the Reagan regime that are driving this " operation. "

Meanwhile, a novice speechwriter quickly learns the cynical ropes in Washington, and gets romantically entangled with the Iowan senator. Back in Grenada, an American medical student is as calculating as the Reagan functionaries scheming to " save " him. And a CIA man is the grave, bumbling point man in Grenada, a meticulous self-groomer who uses Holiday Inn tourist maps to plot the invasion.

" ...you have a strong recommendation for this kind of low-budget, high-intensity theater. "
--Steve Hayes-Pollard, Berkeley Express

"It's a dark lesson on the dirty political game with a humorous facade: Against a minimalist set, the clever 'comic strip approach' moves briskly through more than 30 scenes. "
--Michelle Currinder, SF Weekly

" In (this) lively production, Dietz peppers various now-familiar targets as the action skitters from a congressional tennis court to a Grenada beach to the White House. Mobile set pieces and a clever sound design turn the long church basement performance space into an asset. "
-- Steven Winn, SF Chronicle
